Valve classification method is a lot, but mainly according to its role in the pipeline classification. General valves in industrial and civil engineering can be divided into 11 categories, namely gate valves, globe valves, plug valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, diaphragm valves, check valves, throttle valves, safety valves, pressure reducing valves and traps. Other special valves, such as valves for instruments, valves for hydraulic control piping systems, valves for various chemical machinery and equipment bodies, etc.

According to the working temperature, the valve can be divided:
(1) ultra-low temperature valve: used for medium working temperature t<-100 ℃ valve.
(2) low temperature valve: used for medium working temperature -100 ℃ ≤t≤-40 ℃ valve.
(3) normal temperature valve: used for medium working temperature -40 ℃ ≤t≤ 120 ℃ valve.
(4) Medium temperature valve: used for medium working temperature 120 ℃
(5) high temperature valve: used for medium working temperature t>450 ℃ valve.
According to the driving mode, the valve can be divided:
(1) Automatic valve refers to a valve that does not require external force to drive, but relies on the energy of the medium itself to make the valve move. Such as safety valve, pressure reducing valve, trap, check valve, automatic control valve, etc.
(2) power-driven valve: power-driven valve can be driven by various power sources.
Electric valve: a valve driven by electric power.
Pneumatic valves: valves actuated by means of compressed air.
Hydraulic valve: a valve driven by the pressure of a liquid such as oil.
In addition, there are combinations of the above driving methods, such as gas-electric valves.
(3) manual valve: manual valve with hand wheel, handle, lever, sprocket, by human to manipulate the valve action. When the valve opening and closing torque is large, this wheel or worm gear reducer can be set between the handwheel and the valve stem. If necessary, the universal joint and the drive shaft can also be used for remote operation.
