Definition of filler

Filler refers to the material that is filled in other objects. For the same type of structured packing, the larger the specific surface area, the higher the mass transfer efficiency, but the resistance increases, the flux decreases, and the packing cost also increases significantly.

The selection should be from the separation requirements, flux requirements, site conditions, material properties and equipment investment, operating costs and other aspects of comprehensive consideration, so that the selected filler can meet the technical requirements, but also has economic rationality.

Selection of packing material

The material of the filler is divided into three categories: ceramic, metal and plastic.

(1) Ceramic filler

Ceramic fillers have good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, ceramic fillers are cheap, have good surface wetting properties, brittle, fragile is its biggest disadvantage.

(2) Plastic filler

The material of plastic filler mainly includes polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and so on, the domestic general use of polypropylene material. The corrosion resistance of plastic filler is good, and it can resist the corrosion of general inorganic acid, alkali and organic solvent. Its temperature resistance is good, can be long-term in100C below use.

Plastic filler is light, cheap, has good toughness, impact resistance, not fragile, can be made into thin-walled structure.

(3) Metal filler

Metal filler can be made of a variety of materials, the choice of the main consideration of corrosion.

Carbon steel fillers are low in cost and have good surface wetting properties, and should be preferred for non-corrosive or low-corrosive systems.

Stainless steel fillers have strong corrosion resistance. Generally speaking, metal fillers can be made into thin-walled structures. They have a large flux, low gas resistance, and have high impact resistance. They can be used under high temperature, high pressure, and high impact strength. The most widely used.
